Particulate emissions from a modern wood stove – Influence of KCl

نویسندگان

چکیده

Particulate matter (PM) generated by residential wood combustion is a major environmental concern in Europe. This study focuses on the influence of potassium chloride (KCl) fine particle emissions from modern stove. Wood logs with and without KCl impregnation were subjected to batch emission measurements. A bi-modal number-size distribution characterized nucleation mode an accumulation was identified for all types fuel. However, presence KCl, lower number ultrafine particles higher larger (size ∼200–500 nm) observed. In addition, factor condensed organic compounds (COC) increased increasing content, 0.16 g/kg dry normal (NW) 0.48 impregnated 2 mol/L solution (HKW), most likely due facilitated heterogeneous condensation semi-volatile hydrocarbons pre-existing ash particles. soot also slightly when content high, 1.47 NW 2.23 HKW.

A Wood-gas Stove for Developing Countries

Through the millennia wood stoves for cooking have been notoriously inefficient and slow. Electricity, gas or liquid fuels are preferred for cooking when they can be obtained. In the last few decades a number of improvements have been made in woodstoves, but still the improved wood stoves are difficult to control and manufacture and are often not accepted by the cook. Gasification of wood (or o...

Carbon-Centered Free Radicals in Particulate Matter Emissions from Wood and Coal Combustion

Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy was used to measure the free radicals in the particulate matter (PM) emissions from wood and coal combustion. The intensity of radicals in PM dropped linearly within two months of sample storage and stabilized after that. This factor of storage time was adjusted when comparing radical intensities among different PM samples. An inverse relations...

Particulate emissions from residential wood combustion in Europe revised estimates and an evaluation

Currently residential wood combustion (RWC) is increasing in Europe because of rising fossil fuel prices but also due to climate change mitigation policies. However, especially in small-scale applications, RWC may cause high emissions of particulate matter (PM). Recently we have developed a new high-resolution (7×7 km) anthropogenic carbonaceous aerosol emission inventory for Europe. The invent...

Hydrocarbon emissions from a modern commercial airliner

We report selected carbon species emission indices (EIs) for a Rolls Royce RB211-535-E4 turbofan engine that were acquired during the NASA EXperiment to Characterize Aircraft Volatile Aerosol and Trace-species Emissions (EXCAVATE). Conducted during winter 2002, the mission focused upon characterizing the exhaust constituents of the NASA Boeing 757 aircraft during ground-based operation. Carbon ...

Co-combustion of Biosolids with Wood Pellets in a Wood Pellet Stove

Co-combustion of biosolids with coal or other biomass fuel can play a significant role in combustion facilities for energy production and waste management policy context. This paper presents the results of an experimental study to investigate the use of biosolids for co-combustion with wood pellets in a wood pellet stove. Fuel property, gas emissions and stove efficiency are compared. In regard...
